Research & Planning

The COVID-19 pandemic was raging virulently at the time of announcing the contest and hence, the imminent thought was to relate the word “connections” with the methods in which human beings were connected with each other throughout the pandemic using virtual platforms.

One of the many interpretations of human bonds and connections is to visualize the human hands being in contact with each other, owing to its virtue of inherently depicting the concept of physical touch and intimacy. This served as the foundation of the design approach.

Wonyoung Jo’s “Sonsaram” series served as the major inspiration to conceptualize the posters. It also helped to cement the thought of depicting inclusivity amongst human beings, by eliminating any assigned identity and generalizing humanity.

Process

The process sketches were developed to create two different posters capturing the theme of “Connections”.

Final Visuals

The colour choices behind the skin and the pants depict inclusivity. The red and blue colour for the pants as well as the light and dark skin colour depict opposite tones and represent inclusivity.

Inclusivity was further reflected through the choice of colours, where the red and blue used in the clothes and the light and dark skin tones depict the juxtaposition of polar opposites in order to prominently display humanity on the whole.

Owing to careful deliberation, poster 1 was submitted as the entry to the contest due to its juxtaposition of sophistication and straightforwardness, which ended up bagging 4th place in the contest.
